The benefits of Matcha

Matcha is more than just a drink, it is a real superfood. It has incredible benefits that affect our entire body.

Matcha has incredible nutritional quality due to its richness in catechin, an antioxidant that strengthens the immune system, prevents cancer and fights cholesterol.

The Japanese are also fond of it for its action against cellular aging, which slows down the appearance of wrinkles. Through its antioxidant activity, free radicals are eliminated, the cells are thus rid of what contributes most to making them age.

Antioxidants

Matcha is the most powerful source of antioxidants known to date: 1384 units per gram. That’s 13 times more than pomegranates, 15 times more than blueberries, and 125 times more than spinach! But what exactly is an antioxidant? It’s simply a natural chemical compound that prevents aging and chronic diseases. Antioxidants are your body’s defense agents.

Matcha also contains a unique, rare and powerful class of antioxidants, known as EGCg catechins, which have powerful anti-cancer properties. The amount of catechins in Matcha is up to 137 times higher in EGCg than in other types of green tea. EGCg counteracts the effects of free radicals, such as pollution, UV rays and chemicals, which can cause damage to human cells and DNA. 60% of the catechins in Matcha are EGCg!

Memory & attention

Green tea polyphenols, present in large quantities in Matcha, are considered therapeutic agents in their own right in studies aimed at slowing the aging processes of the brain.

A study showed that Matcha increased memory and improved effective brain connectivity, leading to increased cognitive performance. Indeed, participants who drank Matcha performed better on memory tests. MRI scans revealed that those who drank Matcha had more interactions between the frontal lobe area and the parietal lobe area in the brain, leading to better memory retention and faster information processing.

Plus, the perfect combination of caffeine and L-theanine in Matcha works wonders for focus! L-theanine stimulates the production of alpha waves in the brain. These waves are directly linked to relaxation, and provide a deep sense of serenity, clarity, and a more alert state of mind.

Mood and stress

Over a thousand years ago, Matcha was introduced to Japan to aid in the practice of meditation. During the long hours spent sitting in contemplation, monks drank Matcha to stay alert but calm and relaxed. Modern science has recently confirmed the validity of this age-old practice!

Indeed, Matcha is very rich in L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that promotes a state of relaxation and well-being by acting directly on the functioning of the brain. L-Theanine promotes the circulation of alpha brain waves, which induce a state of deep relaxation and creativity while reducing mental and physical stress. Matcha contains up to five times more L-Theanine than other teas!

The combination of Matcha components therefore has positive effects on mood and stress. The combination of L-theanine, caffeine and EGCG catechins creates a state of relaxation and reduces anxiety.

Antiviral and antibacterial

Matcha a true totem of immunity. It's winter. Everyone around you is sick. BUT NOT YOU! Because Matcha strengthens the immune system and limits the contamination and multiplication of viruses and bacteria in the body.

The special antioxidant catechin EGCg, which we discussed above, is particularly effective in fighting and protecting the body against bacterial and viral infections. EGCg binds to the body's cells and inhibits the growth of many pathogenic microorganisms, including the influenza virus, the hepatitis virus, herpes and the bacteria that cause tonsillitis.

Metabolism and weight loss

Matcha green tea contains both EGCg and caffeine. Combined, this powerful duo is known to boost metabolism and increase fat burning.

The catechins in Matcha help speed up thermogenesis (the amount of calories burned during the digestion process), allowing you to burn more calories while resting. In fact, one study showed that consuming Matcha can increase fat burning by up to 8%!

Another study showed that the EGCg contained in large quantities in Matcha could help burn up to 17% more calories during exercise. Matcha also helps regulate blood sugar levels in the body.

Cognitive functions

Matcha makes you smarter!

A study of 23 people looked at measuring brain efficiency by performing a series of specific tasks. Some participants drank Matcha, while the control group drank another placebo tea. The researchers found that Matcha significantly improved attention, reaction time, and memory compared to the placebo.

Another study showed that consuming 2 grams of Matcha daily for two months helped improve brain function in older adults. After drinking 2 grams of Matcha every day for 3 months, participants saw significant improvements in their mental state.
